The US Department of Justice has taken down 15 DDoS for hire websites a few weeks earlier. These malicious attacks aim to disrupt the normal internet traffic of websites. Some of the victims include the websites of universities, government agencies, banks, and gaming companies.
These websites sell DDoS for hire services disguised as network stress-testing services. Federal investigators were able to shut down 15 domains and prevent them from perpetrating more attacks. Some of them, such as Rage Booter, Ampnode, Quantum Stresser, and Downthem are actually well-known names. Three people are also facing charges for running these services. Juan Martinez and Matthew Gatrel are charged for violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, while David Bukowski is facing charges for computer intrusion.

The alarming fact about these websites selling DDoS attack services is the huge number of patrons. People are actually paying to knock off websites and disrupt people’s internet connections. Reports show that Quantum Stresser alone has 80,000 subscribers and has 50,000 actual or attempted attacks. This December, gamers were the most targeted users by these attacks. The plan is for the perpetrator to jam their gaming opponent’s internet connection.
